FAQs

Are you taking new clients?

Yes, on a rolling basis. Let’s talk first, to make sure we’re a good fit for each other. It’s important to me that we’re both inspired and excited to work together!

Can we work together in person?

Not currently; with the global pandemic, I’m conducting Zoom sessions only.

How is coaching different from therapy?

Both are powerful, valid modalities which challenge your perspective. Some people consider therapy more past oriented, and coaching more future oriented. That can sometimes be the case, though I personally view therapy as more healing oriented, and coaching as more performance oriented. Elite athletes need both a sports doctor to tend any injuries and a coach to uplevel their game.

How is executive or leadership coaching different from life coaching?

I generally think of executive coaching as a coaching engagement or program that’s sponsored by and includes business goals determined by your employer. Executive or leadership coaching may still cover issues related to your work-life balance, relationships, or personal fulfillment. Life coaches typically work with personal goals and objectives, with little to no career or business nexus.

How do I choose the right coach for me?

Have some honest conversations. As with any service provider, like a lawyer, doctor, therapist, yoga teacher, etc., it’s important that you trust your coach. Do they challenge you in constructive ways? Do you feel safe with them so that you can dig deep and do honest, sometimes uncomfortable work? What kind of training, experience, and instincts do they bring to the table, and how does that fit with your coaching focus? Trust your intuition.

Do you still practice law? Can I hire you for startup counseling, venture financings, M&A transactions, commercial contracts, product counseling, IP or other legal advice?

I’m still a member of the California and Washington state bars, but I’m not currently practicing law or doing deals. I do practice alternative dispute resolution as a mediator and arbitrator, and I occasionally do very limited startup consulting if my interest is piqued and you’re here via a warm introduction. If you need a lawyer, I can provide referrals to my recommended trusted law firms.

Are you free for coffee so I can pick your brain about escaping corporate life / leaving law practice / coaching / career transition / travel / taking a sabbatical / climbing mountains / life?

Maybe. Tell me a little about yourself, and the specific questions you have.
